What's Happening Now
  • July 2024 – Walls and glass windows for an area. Deep dive into the Programs Centre.
  • June 2024 – In this episode of Expansion Briefing,
  • May 2024 – Construction for an addition to the existing building. New areas being added are: a community boardroom, office space, and mechanical room. Deep dive into The Event Centre, an adaptable space for a wide array of functions.
  • April 2024 – Foundations and footing are complete. Horizontal concrete slab work proceeding. Concrete pours for the maintenance garage and outdoor patio area. Installation of a new transformer for electricity.
  • March 2024 – In this episode of Expansion Briefing, delve into the driving forces behind this transformative project during a sit down with the PHRA board of directors.
  • February 2024 – Contractors have moved past the demolition phase and are now focused on securely placing the underground utilities as part of the overall foundations phase. 
  • December 2023 – There was a Groundbreaking Ceremony to commemorate the progress of the Expansion project.
  • November 2023 – The construction project has begun and is progressing well. The contractor is currently excavating the site to prepare it for the foundation work.
  • October 16, 2023 – PHCC officially closes office and park to all visitors to begin renovation. PHCC staff remain accessible via email (info@myphra.com) and phone (403.226.4386) during 9am to 4.30pm, Monday to Friday.
  • October 4, 2023 – The motion for $7.4 million in funding for the PHCC Expansion was passed with overwhelming approval from members in attendance at the 2023 AGM.
How will the construction project impact our members?

As a member, you can expect the following during the construction period:

  • You will not have access to the community centre or park from October 16, 2023 until the completion of the project. This means that they will be no rentals, programs, and events at the centre during the construction period

  • We will bring the PHRA programs and events into the community. We will use several greenspaces throughout neighborhood. Primary locations will be Panamount Square and Panora Square that align with our Play Hubs. Please check our website for updates and details on these alternative locations.

  • You will be kept informed of the progress and status of the expansion project through our website, newsletter, social media, and email. We will also provide opportunities for you to share your feedback and suggestions on the project. We value your input and involvement in this exciting endeavor.

  • Maintenance operations will continue as normal during the project. Our contractor (Hydra) will continue with the Enhanced Landscape Maintenance program and our maintenance department will look after direct control (DC) sites, annual flowers/flowerpots and PHCC park

  • Maximize indoor space of the facility to accommodate more programs and services for our community members

  • Create environments that are holistic, open, inviting, integrated, collaborative, interactive, multi-generational and anchored in social connections

  • Upgrade the amenities to meet the needs of our diverse community

  • Increase community pride and engagement by fostering a deep sense of belonging and identity

DESIGN
  • This renovation and addition reinforces a culture of design excellence through functionality, accessibility, sustainable design, and member experience. The improved centre will further connect to the community, all while enhancing and enriching the quality of life for those who live, play and retire in the neighbourhood.
  • The guiding principle for the expansion is to maximize indoor space to increase member experience while using the centre. 
  • New Features include:
    • Event Centre with 150 person occupancy and Kitchen facilities
    • Program Centre with 100 person occupancy
    • Outdoor Lounge
    • Members Lounge
    • Boardroom
    • Lobby with member services counter and offices
